ABOUT ABORTION RIGHTS IN THE USA

There was a collective scream of anger when the Alabama Supreme Court declared that a frozen embryo — a tiny speck that fits in a test tube — has more rights than the owner of its future womb. Some fancy footwork by the Alabama legislature mitigated the problems this decision created for those seeking in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. However, lawmakers left in place the premise that an embryo is a person. And that, in a nutshell, is the problem. The motive behind the so-called “right to life” is control, not compassion. This decision is the illogical conclusion of believing that every fertilized egg, whether viable or not, counts as a person. This is an ideology straight out of the Catholic Church. It is why so many who cover themselves in the mantle of pro-life are opposed to most, if not all, forms of contraception and IVF. And it shows how this fight is really about bodily autonomy. That is why the fight for fertility treatments is tied to abortion rights, trans freedom, queer liberation, and more.

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, there have been successful efforts to codify the right to abortion into state law. People have hit the streets to work on this issue. And so the Democratic Party machine is belatedly promoting a “freedom to choose” stance to help it win in the presidential election November 2024. But this is an unreliable posture by politicians who won’t come out and say the word “abortion.” The majority of the People, i.e. the grassroots, support legal abortion. The Anarcha-feminists are in the forefront of the fight for abortion rights in USA and global. Now is the time to act. Regards IAF, April 2024.

BLACK STAR TO NOAM CHOMSKY
Noam Chomsky identifies as an anarcho-syndicalist and libertarian socialist, viewing anarchism as a challenge to unjustified authority and emphasizing grassroots democracy and worker control. The website anarchy.no hosts texts and links relevant to anarchism, including works related to Chomsky's ideas and also has contributions from Noam Chomsky himself, i.e. he has participated actively in the ANARCHY DEBATE, see: https://www.anarchy.no/andebate.html.

Chomsky's anarchism

Libertarian socialism: Chomsky advocates for a form of voluntary socialism that he identifies with libertarian socialism, anarcho-syndicalism, and commune/communist anarchism, and he is for green policy.
Opposition to authority: He believes in dismantling concentrations of power, both from the state and from private economic forces, i.e. capitalism - economical plutarchy, arguing they are not necessary features of human life.
Human nature: Chomsky sees anarchism as a tendency in human thought and belief that seeks to create systems of social organization based on freedom and cooperation, and he believes modern technology can be used in a liberatory way within such a system.
Historical context: He views the history of anarchism as part of a longer historical struggle against oppressive institutions, and points to movements in Europe as examples of efforts toward worker control and participation.
Chomsky has also contributed to the Cogrips-model research at IIFOR and INDECO-OSE, that gave Prof. Dr. Jens Hermundstad alias Timian Sabatini the Black Star Prize. Samgripingsmodellen, or shorter – Samgrepsmodellen, (Eng. Cogripsmodel) is an integrated micro-macro model, a macroeconomic model that includes microeconomic models and reasoning and shows how microeconomic conditions affect macroeconomics and vice versa. The Cogrips model and associated Cogrips policy also have a democracy aspect, a bottom-up perspective (a bottom-up approach) including environmental factors (Green), among others based on Ragnar Frisch's articles on democracy - and this has among others resulted in an international democracy project (Democracy Project) under the auspices of IIFOR, which is also the project manager. Several researchers have been involved, including the well-known professor Noam Chomsky at MIT, NØI-INDECO has contributed somewhat as a consultant, and there has also been assistance from - and dialogue with - the Department of Economics (ØI) at UiO, Statistics Norway (SSB) and the Labour Movement Archive (ARBARK). Noam Chomsky is recovering from a stroke he suffered in June 2023

. The stroke has impacted his ability to speak, and the right side of his body is affected. He has been receiving treatment in Brazil, including daily visits from a neurologist, speech therapist, and pulmonologist, and has since been discharged to continue his recovery at home.

Initial injury: Chomsky suffered a stroke in June 2023.
Treatment location: After being transferred from the United States, he has been receiving treatment in a hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. He was discharged in June 2024 to continue recovering at home.
Medical status:
- His speech is significantly impaired.
- The right side of his body has been affected.
- He is not on life support.
- He reportedly follows the news, and when he sees images of the war in Gaza, he raises his left arm in a gesture of "lament and anger".
Rumors: False reports of his death circulated on social media in June 2024 but were corrected by multiple sources, including the STAR Scholars Network and the Jacobin.
NØI-INDECO-OSE and FABS wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can still live for many years.
